"Monarch on Milkweed" Originial Watercolor Painting by Sandy Tyler
Monarch butterflies are revered around the world. Their bright orange wings pop amid any landscape and their fall migration to Mexico coincides with Day of the Dead, making their appearance even more meaningful as they may represent loved ones. In the US, they are endangered. Milkweed is their only host plant and often mowed. This painting with its expressive brush strokes shares their beauty with all. It's a diminutive reminder that we're always evolving or, in the monarch's case, undergoing metamorphosis.
This 6" square painting is framed in a handmade pine frame and sealed with Tung Oil. The painting itself was created on FSC certified Aquabord with handmade soil watercolor. It is sealed with a honey and casein fixatif, eliminating the need for glass. There were no harsh chemicals or plastics used in the creation or finishing of this artwork.
Artwork was created by me, Sandy Tyler, in Ohio using the most sustainable materials I could find. Most materials are made by artisans in the USA.
